Meet the Peaslees
JARAMIE & DEVIN
Married September 19, 2021
Black Hills Bride is thrilled to feature this couple as one of our 2022 Real Weddings. When we received the photo submission from their photographer, Linda with Sundance Girl Photography, we knew it was a strong contender. I mean, look at it! That backdrop, the minimalist arbor, the giant ferns paving the way to the altar, it's stunning. We got the chance to speak with Jaramie to hear all about her big day, from the planning phase to saying 'I do” let's hear what she had to say.
HEAR FROM THE BRIDE
Q: How'd you two meet?
A: I had moved back to the states from Australia, and my first job was at a steakhouse in Wright, WY. His mom was the manager, and he ran the kitchen. We became friends from there on.
Q: How did you get engaged? Were you surprised?
A: Leading up to last Christmas, he did a 24 days of Christmas for me. Every day I would open something small, and then on Christmas morning, he proposed to me! It was definitely a surprise. We love to prank each other so at first I was thinking it was a joke, but then I stuttered a little and said yes, of course!
Q: Why did you decide to get married in the Black Hills?
A: We chose to get married in the Black Hills because of the simple but breathtaking scenery. My husband and I have spent a lot of time in the area whether it be for a day trip, a weekend away or special occasion. Many of our best memories whilst dating took place in the hills. Not to mention the fact that The Barn at Aspen Acres is absolutely stunning.
Q: Did you include your family members in your planning process? What were their roles?
A: For the planning process of the wedding, I have to say our families were mostly there for moral support. Everyone knows in theory that a wedding is stressful to plan but you never know until you're looking at color swatches, cake designs, and contracts left and right. They were definitely there for the ups and downs, and always lending an ear to a stressed-out bride and groom. I have to say though, that when it came to the dress, this casual bride let her mom, sister, and Maid of Honor take the reins a bit. At the end of the day, they see me through different eyes.
Q: What was your favorite detail you included in your wedding day?
A: My favorite detail of the day was our private last dance. After all the chaos and noise of the day was over, we took the time to dance, just the two of us. That was probably the most intimate part of our day, just two newlyweds enjoying a dance in a beautiful location and the lights dimmed down. It was complete bliss.
Q: What was your theme or style? How did you pick it?
A: Our theme was a rustic modern approach. I am a city girl that loves clean lines and simplicity, whereas my husband prefers a more western decor. I think we met each other in the middle at the end of the day. We went with navy blue, charcoal gray and white for our colors, these were classic yet easy to incorporate each of our styles.
Q: Did anything unexpected happen? How did you handle it?
A: I can honestly say that nothing went wrong or unexpectedly. I think we kept such an open mind and laid-back demeanor throughout the day, that had anything been unexpected or wrong we may not have even noticed.
Q: What is something unique or different you included that other brides might not think of?
A: The private dance but it was such a special part of our day, and the most memorable. Even if everything else about our day would have gone wrong, that dance was the best way to end it. I will always remember it and every time I hear that song I'll smile.
Q: What's one piece of advice you'd give to future brides?
A: I looked through a ton of magazines and loved Pinterest, but I got a big wedding planning binder that had everything you could think of for checklists, contact sheets, color schemes and all the stuff in one spot. My photographer pointed out the planner from Black Hills Bride and we used that a lot.
While you’re planning, and on the big day, absolutely delegate! If you have support, take it. I don’t like to take help and do things on my own but it was a good day to let other people support me. It was nice to have people who could do things for us. It’s supposed to be fun, not overwhelming.

Q: What do you love about being a wedding photographer?
A: I LOVE all the emotions that surround such a beautiful event and enjoy capturing those moments as they naturally unfold.
Q: What is your favorite thing to photograph at weddings?
A: My favorite thing is the “first look” whether it's with the groom or with a father, just some very special memories being made.
Q: What advice would you give to couples looking for their wedding photographer?
A: Be sure you like their “style” and feel comfortable with them, you are going to be spending several hours together so it should be fun!
