Our Love Story
We chose to get married in the Black Hills because we have always loved the area. One of our first vacations as a couple was to Deadwood. We drove down to Custer State Park to do some hiking and instantly fell in love with Sylvan Lake. The Black Hills were also a great destination for both families as the bride's family is from Wyoming and the groom’s family is from North Dakota.
How We Met
We met through a mutual friend in Bismarck. Our friend introduced us as we were all enjoying some drinks. We ended up connecting and exchanging numbers. I was a little timid and focused on school, but knew in my heart that Kevin was the one for me.
Planning Our Day
We included both sets of parents during the planning process. We asked our parents for guidance. Kevin’s brother-in-law was the best man, Kevin’s sisters were bridesmaids, and my brother was a groomsman. The officiant was also a family member.
Wedding Hint
One unique thing that we did on our wedding day was incorporating a traditional wedding dance into the reception. Ever since I was a little girl my grandmother and I danced to a traditional German wedding song, Zillertaler Hochzeitsmarsch. We joked that someday at my wedding we would dance to that song. My grandfather, who is part of the Concord Singers, a German band in Minnesota, sang and recorded the song in 1995. On our wedding day, my grandfather announced the history of our dance and had the DJ play his rendition of the song. The dance started off as just my grandmother and me, and then everyone started to join in for the fun.
