How We Met

Athena Anderson-Wittman and Gabe Palmer both grew up in Rapid City–they met while Gabe was interning at the snowboard shop her brother managed. Athena had already caught Gabe's eye three years earlier, but it was the day she walked into the shop and asked if she could have a bite of his snickerdoodle cookie that Gabe gave her all he had, including his heart. They began dating and have never looked back. 
The proposal happened in June 2014, when Gabe and Athena took their dog for a walk by Canyon Lake. They sat on a bench to talk for a while, and as they were about to leave, Gabe got up and said, “What do you think Shenzi, should I ask your mom to marry me?” She was totally surprised, and of course she said “yes”!

Planning Our Day

The couple had an outdoor ceremony with a “Modern Glam” reception theme at K Bar S Lodge on June 13, 2015. “I love sparkles and also chose gold to incorporate some glam. We splurged on the reception flowers and decorations to create a beautiful experience for our guests.”

Wedding Hint

When asked about her best tip for other couples, Athena shared, “Don't skimp on your photographer. Gabe and I look at our photos all of the time. It is one of the lasting things from our wedding day. Also, hire a videographer. We love re-watching the first look and hearing the speeches from our friends. It is so great being able to relive the wedding day whenever we want to.”
