Whitney and Heath Johnson Engagement Announcement

Whitney Bartels, daughter of Kevin Bartels and Kimberly Emme of Rapid City, South Dakota and Spearfish, South Dakota, has become engaged to Heath Johnson, son of Scott and Debra Johnson of North Bend, Nebraska.

Proposal

I (Whitney) planned a trip to Ireland in March of 2017. I found a great deal online and asked Heath if he would like to go with me. After some hesitation he agreed. Fast forward to the trip and we left March 20th, 2017. We saw castles, stayed in beautiful hotels, toured cities, and saw so much history. On March 25 we went to the Cliffs of Moher, which is the whole reason I wanted to go to Ireland. I had dreamt of seeing those cliffs ever since I was 9 years old. We arrived and walked all along the edge, completely spell-bound by the beauty of it all. Along the northern part of the cliffs there is a tower called O’Brien’s Tower. Heath set up his phone in the tower window on timer to take a picture of us together looking out over the cliffs. I stood where he instructed and had my back to him, ready to take a picture when he ran up next to me. Next thing I knew I turned around and he was on one knee! His phone was on video so he captured the whole moment. With the cliffs in the background and a beautiful sunny day I couldn’t imagine a more incredible proposal.

How They Met

We met in Spearfish, South Dakota through mutual friends and saw each other around town often. One evening we met up in Deadwood during the Cool Deadwood Nights concerts and he never left my side! The rest is history!
