Mary and Aubrey Olson Engagement Announcement

Mary Anderson, daughter of Bruce Anderson and Cindy and Jeff Bailie of Rapid City, has become engaged to Aubrey Olson, son of Eric and Julie Olson of Midland, TX.

Proposal

Aubrey and I love to hike and camp together. So one Saturday in August we planned a hike up Harney Peak and camp so we could watch the meteor shower that was happening that night. It was somewhat of an overcast day and as we embarked on our hike it started to rain.

I suggested that we wait for the rain to stop but Aubrey insisted we keep going because we don’t want to miss the sunset. (In hindsight I should have noticed that he was a little too persistent) So we kept hiking and the rain let up after only 15 minutes.  It was a beautiful hike and when we made it to the top we set up camp and and Aubrey unpacked a beautiful picnic dinner that he had packed. He also had the forethought to pack wine and glasses too!

After our picnic we moved to another spot on the peak to watch the sunset. This when I started to notice him acting goofy. I was sitting on the blanket and Aubrey kinda squatted behind me then stood up and walked a few steps and squatted again and then stood up and told me to stand. I said why don’t we sit to watch the sunset but he wanted me to stand. So I obliged and when I was standing he started saying the most wonderful things to me. Right away my heart started racing and as soon as he got down on one knee I started crying. I also dropped to my knees to hug him. I said yes yes yes.

I could not have asked for a better man or a more romantic and perfect evening. I thank God for bringing him to me.  And I am so excited to be marrying the love of my life.
