Proposal

We got engaged after 4 years of dating and had been talking about it for at least 3 of those. After completing grad school in spring 2016, I moved out to Bismarck and into one of his beautiful home creations together. We’d been living together for well over 2 years. I’ll be honest in that I was getting a bit antsy. I actually thought he was going to ask on our dating anniversary, but that didn’t work out weather wise. So a few days later was actually his birthday. I had the afternoon off and we decided to go to the local pumpkin patch. So we went to get some lunch and had a couple drinks. Walking through the pumpkin patch and this little nature trail, I was telling him how I’d felt bad because I didn’t have time to shop or get him anything to open. He played it off. Then said that there actually was only one thing he wanted for his birthday. When I turned to ask what, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He thinks I hesitated, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t even wait for him to get the full question out before I said yes.

How They Met

We met online. I was living in Grand Forks, ND. Andy was living in Bismarck. He was busy growing his custom home building company. And I was working in the hospital, teaching nursing clinical, and getting my degree as a nurse practitioner. Neither of us were in environments to meet many people the traditional way.

I’d been going on a few dates, and was actually considering taking a break from the whole online dating scene. But then Andy reached out. Turns out he was just browsing at who was in the region and repaid for his subscription so he could message me.

It’s all history from there. We went on our first date taking a walk by the Red River before I went in for a night shift. And we went on our second date the very next night. It all just fell into place after that.
