Hailey Mitzel, daughter of Kelli & Daryl Mitzel of Sioux Falls, SD, has become engaged to Kody Derosier, son of Kim & Dave Derosier of Spearfish, SD.

Proposal

Thursday, May 4th, 2017, the day was bound to come and those who took part in the day are forever close to Kody & I’s hearts.
There are no words for the secrets, surprises and excitement of THE proposal day. The day started more special than normal as it was the day before my 24th birthday and the day before I would graduate with my graduate degree from UNL (what a combo!). As far as I knew, some of my closest friends, Kody’s family, and my parents / grandparents would be arriving into Lincoln, NE for my “graduation celebration.” During the day, I got pampered by my best friend Marisa Cushing & soon to be sister in law, Taylor Derosier. We had a typical “girls day” (coffee, nails, lunch with drinks to celebrate). Little did I know, Kody and his family were running to the jewelry store, picking out the perfect roses, and meeting with the restaurant to make sure every small detail was perfect. The plan (or so I thought) was to meet at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course around 6 pm (the family and friends even earlier). Though not in the plan, Marisa and I took longer than planned to get ready and arrived around 6:20 pm…(see proposal photos of Kody pacing back and forth on his own little island super nervous). Upon arrival I started feeling nervous, the manager came from around the host stand and said “Hailey, right this way, your family is out on the course taking family photos, I will drive you there in the golf cart.” In the back of my mind I wasn’t sure whether to feel like royalty or wonder why the family would be taking photos as I would be the instigator of this. As the golf cart approached the line of pine trees, I felt my heart racing. Marisa was barely talking and when your best friend looks you in the eye, you just know.. I walked around the wall of trees and there in front of my eyes was a rock path with my grandparents, best friends, soon to be mother/father in law, soon to be sister, and my own parents. (insert more love than you can imagine) As I walked I could see a photographer capturing every moment out of the corner of my eye. Each family member handed me a rose with words of encouragement, funny jokes, and love advice for our road ahead. All this time, I could see Kody in the distance, standing in shock at how beautiful I looked. After ending with my parents, I walked 200 yards down to face Kody where he spoke words of happiness and a lifetime together before getting down on one knee then….YES! I BECAME THE FUTURE MRS. DEROSIER.
How They Met

Some how I got roped into being a collegiate cheerleader….Never did I think this day would come. At the first practice, a girl with a fiery personality, and bright spandex forever stole my heart. From that day forward, it became my mission to make her think I was cool enough to become boyfriend material. I poured my heart and soul into this task with no avail. But I am not a quitter. I would even go as far as to sucker cheer friends ie. Mariah Nachreiner into Cherry Berry dates just so Hailey would come with. After 3 long years of trying, and many failed attempts, I finally convinced Hailey to be my gal, and unbeknownst to her my forever. The love was instant. I knew the moment I met her that some day I would ask her to be my wife. Some people say, ” when you know, you know.” Unless you have met your soulmate, this means very little. It simply cant be explained. Julie Dillon said it best when she said, “Our universe grants every soul a twin—a reflection of themselves—the kindred spirit – And no matter where they are or how far away they are from each other—even if they are in different dimensions, they will always find one another. This is destiny; this is love.” Her sole is my sole’s twin. I cant wait to see what life has in store for the two of us. Thank you Hailey for being my sure thing, and my forever.
