Proposal

Cody was about to have his first trip to the Kula farm outside of Gettysburg, SD.  He knew this was a special place, as I had talked about lots of precious memories had here.  He also knew this was the place he wanted to pop the question, but would only have time Friday morning before we left for Hoven, SD.
Friday morning came and I asked my dad if he would tour us around the farm (as he knows all the cool stories since he grew up here).  Fortunately, for Cody, he said he had to do some work.  So we took off on the 4-wheeler, me driving, Malik (our puppy) and Cody on the back.  I was on a mission to give Cody the coolest tour of the farm that I could and little did I know, Cody was on a mission to find the perfect moment to propose…
First stop was the abandoned house that I always find creepy but intriguing, still having clothes and dishes in place as if one day the family simply vanished.  We walked around the two story house through the tall, thick grass and weeds coming up to our waists and peered through the windows with no glass panes left.  Cody even took a picture of the old wood house with frayed curtains blowing outside the upstairs window and sent it to his friend in reference to the television show “Supernatural.”
Next stop was my dad’s old one room school house.  Being such a meaningful place to me I love going here, however, over the years it has deteriorated greatly.  This year, sadly, the piano was tipped over and the wood floors were caving in with no old text books or supplies left to look at.  I was disappointed to show Cody such a rundown school house, but the history and memories behind it are still neat to imagine.
The final monumental stop that I had planned was the little cemetery.  We headed through several pastures and reached the top of a hill with a great panoramic view of beautiful farm land.  At the top of this hill is where Jose, his wife, and child lay to die.  A single headstone marks their graves.  They died from a disease many years ago as they traveled through the land on their wagon.
Soon enough we were headed back to my grandparent’s house and Cody was still trying to find the perfect place to propose,  while I was unknowingly giving him rather gruesome options.
As we headed back to the house, Cody told me to pull over at a pond that I had pointed to on the start of our tour and told him we used to shoot clay pigeons there.  I was hesitant since this was not a very exciting site but I did what he asked as this was “his tour.”  He suggested that we go climb a pile of rocks closer to the pond.  Once again I was curious as to why he would want to go by the pond, as it’s not that exciting.  He helped me to the top of the rocks and he stood below me.  I turned around to look what was moving in the bushes.  After a few seconds Cody said “Well I guess this is the best place to do this,” and I turned around and he said, “WILL YOU MARRY ME?”  Being in complete shock, I told him to shut up and that I couldn’t believe it.  After a few more seconds, with the biggest smile on my face, I said “YES!”  I never wanted to leave that pile of rocks we stood on, as it was one of the happiest moments of my life!
After we soaked in the moment we went back to the house and I hollered for my dad.  He came out of the bedroom and I showed him my hand and said “Look what I got!”  He gave me a hug and told Cody welcome to the family.  Next Dust and Sophia came out and I told them the news, still in total shock.  Next I had to call my Mom and Nicole.  I could barely get the words out “Cody asked me to marry him!” before my mom and I simultaneously started crying.
And that farm tour was the start to the rest of our lives together!
