Proposal
Getting engaged and married was something that I desired but never really thought would happen any time soon! Being somewhat gullible by nature, this makes for an even better surprise engagement, I suppose.
Some of our good friends were visiting from Arizona. We wanted to surprise them with a big dinner at the Vertex because they have never been up there before. Also, my mother and brother got to our house from out of state for a planned visit. I told my mother that she needed to watch our kiddos for the night because Andy and I were going out with friends; she agreed.
We were getting ready for the dinner (I really didn’t feel like going out) but was persuaded. At the last moment, my mother and brother wanted to join us as well. I was furious! At last minute, Andy got his mother to watch our kiddos and as we were walking out the door my daughter said “Grandma Sonya, come back!” It broke my heart and later found out, it broke my mother’s heart as well!
We met our friends at Sanfords, had a quick drink there and then walked to Paddy’s. I took Andy aside and we thought of a clever way to get up to the Vertex without giving away the “surprise”. As we were walking upstairs to the restaurant, we started to see all our friends and we all yelled “SURPRISE”! (The surprise had yet to happen!) All of our friends were there and I thought to myself “This is so awesome! What a nice surprise this was for our friends from AZ!”
We were all mingling, drinking and taking photos together; it was such a great time. Andy led me outside, onto the balcony and I noticed our friend Charles was sitting in the corner on his phone. I asked “What is he doing over there!? What a creep!” Charles responded, “I don’t’ get much alone time.” Whatever! So Andy and I continued to chat and pretty soon I heard a bunch of yelling from inside the Vertex.
I looked over and saw that all our friends were gathered at the windows, yelling excitedly and holding up a bunch of engagement signs. Our song began to play over a bluetooth speaker. Andy turned to me and said “This is all for you”, got down on one knee, held out a ring and asked me to marry him. I was in complete shock and started crying.
Of course I said YES and the rest is history. It turns out that the surprise for our friends was actually a surprise for me. It was well thought and planned out and everyone knew except me! I was mad and so happy at the same time! Pretty much everyone had seen the ring as well!
I’m so looking forward to marrying the man whom is my best friend and amazing father to our children.
How They Met
I’ve been with my fiance, Andy for 5 years. We went to high school together in Hot Springs and actually almost dated. We have two beautiful children together and just recently bought our first house.
