Julie and Patrick Smith Wedding Story
Saturday, September 27, 2014
What was the most memorable part of the day?
The setting and the overwhelming feeling of love. The guests all came together and it felt like a huge family celebration.
What was the funniest thing that happened on you wedding day?
Patrick's speech. He was describing how wonderful his bride was and to her surprise, leaned down to ask her "what else did you want me to say?". This created a great amount of laughter. We also did a traditional "chair dance" in which a decorated chair is used in the middle of the dance circle. Many guests took turns performing their own interpretive dance with the chair.
How We Met
Patrick and Julie met working for the Southwestern Company selling books in the summer during college.
Patrick proposed to Julie while iceskating at Main Street Square in Rapid City around Christmas time. Julie cried very hard and her dad was there to secretly take pictures. Patrick made sure to ask Julie's mom and stepdad and dad for permission before popping the question to Julie. Everything was a complete surprise.
Planning for Our Day
The theme was rustic chic. Our colors were deep plum and rich fall colors. Our centerpieces were log slices that had been wood burned by guests (J+P, 9-27-2014, etc.). We also had candles and burlap roses that sat on the log slices. We had yellow sunflowers in mason jars sprinkled throughout as well. The groom brewed a Bride's Brew (Cream Style Ale- Blonde and Bubbly) and a Groom's Brew (A Porter- Tall, Dark, and Handsome).
