Erin and Jordan Shanker Wedding Story
Sunday, June 29, 2014
The most memorable part of the day was the ceremony. The weather was perfect: blue sky and sunny. Seeing the sunlight peaking through the trees while walking down the aisle was breathtaking.
What was the funniest thing that happened on your wedding day?
Erin's mom and dad had never been to a Jewish wedding before and were slightly terrified of the chair-lifting tradition during the song and dance portion of the reception. Once they were being lifted up above the crowd in the chairs and realized they weren't going to fall, they broke out in laughter and smiles. My dad even started twirling a napkin in the air like a lasso as he was having so much fun.
How We Met
We met at Rice University in Houston, TX during our freshman year.
We came to Rapid City for the holidays in December 2012. After a scenic drive up the Needles highway we stopped for stroll at the Norbeck Overlook where Jordan asked me to marry him.
Planning for Our Day
We chose the State Game Lodge because it is a beautiful outdoor venue within Custer State Park. The convenience of having the reception, ceremony, and lodgings all on site was also ideal. My color was navy blue but I added some some cream accents. The centerpieces were wild flowers in birch wrapped vases. The theme of the wedding was Nature. I wanted the scenery to do most of decorating.
