Our Love Story

My favorite part of the day was our photo shoot in the park with the just the photographer and my groom. It was so special to have those quiet moments together especially when you are surround by friends and family constantly. I also had some singers from the Dakota Choral Union perform during my ceremony. I used to sing in the group.

How We Met

My groom and I met in Rapid City while I was working and he was attending the School of Mines. We were together 8 months before he moved away for work. We did long distance for three years, seeing each other once a month and at holidays. It took a while, but as two people both starting our careers, we knew to be patient. Our engagement meant I would be leaving my family, friends, and job I loved. But it was worth it to be with Chris. Now settled in Sioux Falls, we came back to Rapid City for our wedding. It was wonderful to be in the beautiful Black Hills surrounded by the family and friends that had supported us throughout our relationship.

Planning Our Day

My theme was seasonal for spring: Fresh flowers, birds and bright colors of red and yellow. I was on a relatively modest budget, but I wanted the big party atmosphere. The Dahl Arts Center lent itself to that naturally, but I created all of my own flower arrangements and made many decorations myself. We didn't have a DJ but I spent a lot of time massaging a kick butt playlist and rented sound equipment. I splurged on my veil (from Etsy) and my photography. If you can, get a photo booth. It's great entertainment for your guests and the photos are great memories.
